Mountain High - My Favorite SoCal Ski Resort
One of the things that I don’t think I will ever get over living in Southern California, is how you can surf and ski all in one day! I never envisioned myself living in Los Angeles, because all I ever pictured were the beaches of Malibu and Beverly Hills shopping, and I’m much more of a mountain girl. But when I first visited and saw that the mountains were so close to the city, and then found out that I could get to snow in less than two hours, I was sold!!!
Growing up in Michigan, I know snow VERY well…mountains and downhill skiing however, not-so-much. In my first attempt to try downhill skiing I headed to Big Bear and as soon as I jumped on the ski lift and saw the cliff drop-off’s and the packed slopes of experienced snowboarders and skiers, I knew I had jumped in too quickly. Tumbling down the mountain and bruising half my body only confirmed this.
So when I was invited to try my hand at skiing again last year at Mountain High Ski Resort, I was excited but cautiously nervous as well. As soon as I got there, I realized this would be a TOTALLY different experience. For one thing, there are a variety of beginner slopes and they are all nice and wide to provide plenty of space for beginners like me. We also kicked the day off with an amazing ski lesson! Our instructor literally walked us up the hill further and further until, before we knew it, we were skiing down from the top!
There’s also just a different vibe here. Everyone feels welcoming and the epitome of California chill. Maybe it’s the 3 different resorts where you can pick and choose your comfort and crowd level? Maybe it’s the 10 different places to eat and drink and patios that give a relaxed party vibe? Maybe it was just that the third time’s the charm? But coming back to Mountain High this year felt exciting and comfortable. I found myself picking it right back up and feeling like a, dare-I-say, “real” skier!
Throw in the fact that Mountain High is only 90 minutes away from Los Angeles, and just added a Yeti Snow Park with snow tubes and an upcoming skating rink, and this place is only getting better. From someone who was absolutely terrified to tumble down another mountain, to deciding to get a season pass for next year, Mountain High has finally sold me on some SoCal skiing!
FUN MOUNTAIN HIGH FACTS
